Job Purpose

The WASH Officer reports to the WASH Specialist in Gaza, providing technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the WASH programming process. The Officer prepares, manages, and implements various technical and administrative tasks related to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the country programme's WASH output results. A key focus will be on working with implementing partners to ensure effective execution of the WASH programme. This role is crucial for advancing UNICEF's mission to ensure children's access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene, especially in challenging contexts. The position contributes to building resilient WASH systems and improving public health outcomes for children and communities.

Responsibilities

The WASH Officer will be responsible for programme development and planning, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's strategic goals and country-specific needs. They will manage, monitor, and deliver results for WASH programmes, overseeing implementation and impact. Providing technical and operational support for programme implementation is a core function, ensuring adherence to standards and best practices. The role includes contributing to humanitarian WASH preparedness and response efforts, ensuring timely and effective interventions during emergencies. Networking and partnership building with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders will be essential for programme success. Furthermore, the Officer will drive innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the WASH sector, sharing lessons learned and promoting best practices. This includes working with implementing partners to strengthen their capacity and ensure sustainable WASH solutions.

Work Experience

At least 2 years of relevant work experience in WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), Water & Environmental Sanitation, Humanitarian Assistance, Public Health, Humanitarian Response, Emergency Preparedness, Programme Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Partnership Management, Capacity Building, Policy Advocacy, or Resource Mobilization.
