Job Purpose
UNICEF Gandhinagar is a partner of choice for the Government of Gujarat, requiring frequent interactions with the bureaucracy for advocacy and technical support. Due to stringent security protocols, private vehicles are not permitted into the Secretariat complex. UNICEF-owned vehicles with authorized drivers are essential for official engagements within these restricted government premises. The Gujarat Field Office manages high travel volumes, including frequent field missions, overlapping meetings, last-minute movements, and airport transfers. Recruiting a TA Driver at the G-2 level will provide reliable and safe driving services, demonstrating professionalism, discretion, integrity, and responsibility, ensuring compliance with local driving rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
The Driver will provide reliable and safe driving services for UN staff, officials, and visitors, transporting them for official engagements, field missions, and airport transfers. This includes meeting officials and visitors at the airport and assisting with basic visa and customs formalities when required. The Driver is responsible for maintaining the assigned vehicle in good running condition, performing minor repairs, arranging for major repairs, and ensuring timely servicing such as oil changes and checks of tires, brakes, and water levels. They will also be responsible for keeping the vehicle clean. The Driver must ensure all required documents and supplies are available in the vehicle, including insurance, registration, logs, a first aid kit, and spare parts, and keep track of insurance and tax formalities. Additionally, the Driver will perform other related duties as required to support office operations.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
