Job Purpose
The Communication Specialist will be accountable for developing, managing, coordinating, networking, implementing, and monitoring advocacy and communication strategies, products, and activities. The primary goal is to target and influence relevant audiences, including the public, to foster child rights champions. This involves promoting awareness, understanding, support, and respect for children's and women's rights, thereby supporting UNICEF's mission, priorities, and programmes in Ukraine and globally, as well as those of the UN Country Team. The role is crucial in shaping public perception and building support for UNICEF's work in a challenging environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a clear communication approach and work plan to support advocacy and country programme objectives, influencing target audiences to effect change for every child. Strengthen public and political will in support of UNICEF's mission and objectives, enhancing the organization’s credibility and brand. Oversee an effective digital content production plan and capacity, creating engaging content to support advocacy and programme priorities, while remaining agile to respond to real-time events. Maintain and develop a contact list of journalists and media outlets across all platforms (print, TV, radio, web) and foster regular communication and collaboration to share UNICEF's cooperation story. Build and maintain a contact list of individuals, groups, organizations, and fora (including Government, UN, and bilateral counterparts) essential for achieving advocacy and communication objectives. Identify, engage, and manage relationships with nationally known personalities to support UNICEF's efforts and participate in special events. Integrate and execute UNICEF’s global communications priorities and campaigns, adapting them locally and enabling coverage of country-level work for global use. Support global and country-level fund-raising activities through effective advocacy and communication strategies. Manage human resources within the communication team and financial resources through effective budget planning, management, and monitoring. Ensure communication baselines are established and monitored.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in communication, advocacy, public relations, or a related field. Experience working in a challenging humanitarian or development context is desirable. Experience in digital content creation and media relations is essential.
