Job Purpose

The WASH Officer, reporting to the WASH Manager in Gaza, will provide essential technical, operational, and administrative support throughout the WASH programming process. This role involves preparing, managing, and implementing diverse tasks related to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH output results within the country programme. A key focus will be on Environmental and Social Safeguard aspects across the project cycle for water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives in Gaza. The position requires a proactive approach to ensure that WASH programs are effectively designed, executed, and monitored, contributing to improved child well-being and community health in a challenging context.

Responsibilities

The WASH Officer will be responsible for programme development and planning, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's strategic objectives and country programme. They will manage programme implementation, monitor progress, and deliver results, ensuring timely and effective execution of WASH activities. Providing technical and operational support for programme implementation is crucial, including the application of environmental and social safeguards. The role also involves contributing to humanitarian WASH preparedness and response efforts, ensuring readiness for emergencies. Networking and partnership building with local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders will be essential for effective programme delivery. Furthermore, the officer will drive innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the WASH sector, sharing best practices and lessons learned to enhance programme effectiveness and sustainability.

Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in WASH-related programmes is required. This includes demonstrated experience in environmental and social impact assessment, safeguards, and risk management for WASH infrastructure projects. Experience with donor environmental and social safeguard requirements and strong technical skills in this area are also necessary.
