Job Purpose
The WASH Officer, reporting to the WASH Manager in Gaza, provides crucial technical, operational, and administrative support for the WASH programming process. This role involves preparing, managing, and implementing diverse tasks essential for the development, execution, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH output results within the country program. A key focus will be on managing supplies for water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions throughout their lifecycle, including identification, procurement, transport, warehousing, approvals, and distribution. The position is vital for ensuring effective and efficient delivery of WASH services to children and communities in the State of Palestine, Gaza.
Responsibilities
The WASH Officer is accountable for programme development and planning, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's strategic objectives and country programme goals. They will manage, monitor, and deliver results for WASH programmes, ensuring timely and effective implementation. Providing technical and operational support for programme implementation is a core function, including advising on best practices and standards. The role also involves contributing to humanitarian WASH preparedness and response efforts, ensuring readiness for emergencies. Building and maintaining strong networks and partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders is essential for programme success. Furthermore, the Officer will drive innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the WASH sector, sharing lessons learned and promoting best practices. This includes supporting the development of new approaches and ensuring that local partners and staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to sustain WASH interventions.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional work experience in WASH-related programmes in developing countries is required. Experience at the country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts, is highly desirable.
