UNICEF
Temporary Appointment: Senior ICT Associate (Process Optimization and Automation - Developer), GS-7, in Business Innovation and Support Section, Global Shared Services Centre, Budapest, Hungary
Organizational Context
UNICEF works globally to save children's lives and defend their rights. The Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC) in Budapest provides essential services in Finance, HR, Payroll, and IT. Within GSSC, the Business Innovation and Support Section drives technology solutions, focusing on process optimization and automation to enhance service delivery through connecting systems, orchestrating workflows, and applying automation.
Job Purpose
The Senior ICT Associate (Process Optimization and Automation – Developer) plays a crucial role in UNICEF GSSC's continuous improvement efforts. This position contributes across the entire automation lifecycle, from initial assessment and qualification of candidate processes to their design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and ongoing enhancement. The role spans various GSSC service lines, including Finance, Master Data Management, HR, Payroll, Offboarding, and Customer Care. The incumbent is responsible for applying the most suitable automation techniques from a broad spectrum, rather than relying on a single tool. This includes leveraging artificial intelligence capabilities embedded within UNICEF’s enterprise platforms, such as Microsoft Copilot and ServiceNow NowAssist, to enhance automations within established architectural and governance boundaries. The ultimate goal is to transition GSSC services from fragmented, manual execution to orchestrated, automated, and continuously improved delivery, supporting UNICEF's global mission.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the ICT Officer and in collaboration with subject-matter experts and DID, the incumbent will perform diverse activities related to process optimization and automation. This involves assessing and qualifying candidate processes for automation, considering feasibility, effort, risk, and expected benefits, then recommending the most appropriate solution approach. A key responsibility is to design, develop, test, and deploy automation solutions based on documented business requirements, utilizing various techniques such as scripting, robotic process automation (RPA), workflow orchestration, low-code platforms like Microsoft Power Platform/Power Automate, or API-based integration with core enterprise systems like SAP ERP and ServiceNow. The role also requires leveraging AI-enabled capabilities within UNICEF’s enterprise platforms to enhance automations, adhering to DID’s architecture, security, and governance frameworks. Furthermore, the incumbent will modernize and migrate existing automations built on legacy tooling, such as AutoIt, PowerShell, SQL scripts, and custom executables, towards standardized, supportable, and cloud-aligned solutions like Microsoft PowerAutomate, Microsoft LogicApps, Blue Prism, and UiPath, ensuring compliance, quality, security, and documentation standards are consistently met and maintained throughout the process.
