Job Purpose
The Project Manager will lead the overall planning, scheduling, and execution of critical health infrastructure projects in Nigeria. This includes overseeing the construction and operationalization of three vaccine hubs in Abuja and Kano, managing operation and maintenance contracts for the solarization of over 370 health centers, supervising the defect liability period for the Abuja Premier Warehouse, and ensuring the successful operationalization of the Lagos Hub. A key objective is to guarantee that all these projects are delivered punctually, within defined scope, and strictly within budget, aligning with approved project objectives and work plans. The Project Manager will report to the Nigeria Country Office Chief of Health and collaborate closely with Health Managers leading Primary Health Care, Immunization, and Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health clusters, ensuring integrated project delivery.
Responsibilities
The Project Manager will provide essential support to programme development and planning, contributing to strategic initiatives and ensuring alignment with UNICEF's health objectives. A core responsibility involves comprehensive programme management, encompassing meticulous monitoring of activities and ensuring the timely and effective delivery of results across all assigned projects. This includes tracking progress, identifying potential risks, and implementing corrective actions to keep projects on track. The role also demands providing robust technical and operational support to programme implementation, offering expert guidance and practical assistance to field teams and partners. Furthermore, the Project Manager will be crucial in networking and partnership building, fostering strong relationships with government counterparts, donors, and other stakeholders to enhance collaboration and resource mobilization. Finally, the position will drive innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building, identifying new approaches, documenting best practices, and strengthening the capabilities of local teams and partners to ensure sustainable project outcomes and continuous improvement in health service delivery.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in project management within the national or international health sector is required.
