Job Purpose
UNICEF Mozambique is seeking two interns to support initiatives strengthening public financial management and improving education service delivery in Nampula and Zambézia provinces. The internship focuses on promoting budget transparency, social accountability, community participation, and evidence-based decision-making. Interns will contribute to activities related to budget transparency, school accountability, public information, and project monitoring, gaining practical experience in public financial management, citizen-friendly budgeting, education sector planning, social accountability methodologies, program monitoring, and data analysis for policy-making.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Social Policy Officer, the intern will contribute to a structured learning assignment focused on budget transparency, school accountability, and community engagement. Key responsibilities include assisting in the development of citizen-friendly versions of planning and budgeting documents, supporting the design of simplified communication materials explaining school resource allocation, and contributing to public information templates, school transparency boards, and disclosure tools. The intern will also support the documentation of good practices and lessons learned on budget transparency initiatives. Additionally, they will help develop and test school-level accountability and transparency tools, assess how schools communicate information on resources and activities, and collect/analyze data on school transparency practices. Engagement with School Councils, Parent Associations, and community representatives is expected, along with documenting community perspectives and supporting awareness-raising activities. Data collection, compilation, and analysis related to education financing, transparency, and service delivery will be crucial, as will assisting in maintaining project monitoring databases and contributing to briefing notes, reports, and knowledge products.
