Job Purpose
Sudan faces multiple public health emergencies, including recurrent cholera, dengue, measles, flood, and malaria outbreaks, compounded by conflict and limited access to basic services. Effective Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) are crucial for the national response, ensuring communities are informed, engaged, and active partners in preventing and mitigating disease outbreaks. This consultancy focuses on strengthening RCCE strategies and implementation to support these efforts. The role involves developing and refining communication approaches tailored to the Sudanese context, working closely with national and local stakeholders to ensure effective dissemination of public health information and community participation in outbreak response.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement effective Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) strategies tailored to the Sudanese context, addressing multiple public health emergencies and conflict-related challenges. Collaborate with national and local health authorities, community leaders, and other partners to ensure coordinated and consistent messaging on disease prevention and outbreak response. Design and produce culturally appropriate communication materials (e.g., IEC materials, social media content, radio messages) to inform and engage communities. Provide technical guidance and capacity building to local partners on RCCE best practices. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of RCCE activities, making adjustments as needed to improve impact. Ensure that community feedback mechanisms are established and utilized to inform program adaptation and response. Contribute to situation analysis and risk assessments related to public health emergencies and community perceptions. Support the integration of RCCE into broader UNICEF programming in Sudan, particularly in areas of social and behavior change. Prepare regular reports on RCCE activities, challenges, and recommendations.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in RCCE, particularly in public health emergencies and outbreak response project development and management. At least 3 years of experience working in an emergency setting in Sub-Saharan Africa is required.
