Job Purpose
The National MICS Consultant (NMC) will provide crucial support and guidance to the UNICEF Algeria Country Office and the Ministry of Health for the successful preparation, implementation, and dissemination of the MICS7 survey. This role is essential for gathering vital data on children and women in Algeria. The consultant will work under the direct supervision and in close collaboration with the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and the Deputy Representative of UNICEF Algeria, ensuring the survey adheres to international standards and national requirements. The ultimate goal is to produce reliable data that will inform policy and programming to improve the lives of children and families in the country.
Responsibilities
The National MICS Consultant will be responsible for overseeing and facilitating all stages of the MICS7 survey in Algeria. This includes providing technical guidance to the national team on survey design, sampling, questionnaire development, and data collection methodologies. The consultant will play a key role in organizing and conducting training sessions for field staff and supervisors, ensuring they are well-prepared for data collection. They will also be responsible for monitoring the data collection process, troubleshooting issues that arise, and ensuring data quality. Furthermore, the NMC will lead the data processing and analysis phase, utilizing statistical software to clean and analyze the collected data. A critical responsibility will be the writing of the final MICS7 survey report, interpreting findings, and preparing dissemination materials. The consultant will also collaborate closely with national counterparts, fostering strong working relationships and ensuring national ownership of the survey process. This includes liaising with the Ministry of Health and other relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and effective dissemination of results.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience is required in coordinating and/or managing quantitative household surveys. Prior experience with MICS or Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) is considered an asset. Strong computer skills and expertise in statistical analysis software, particularly SPSS, are essential. Experience in organizing training sessions, data analysis, and survey report writing is also required.
