Job Purpose
The Community Development Officer (WASH) plays a crucial role in UNICEF's efforts in Kiribati by leading community mobilization, hygiene promotion, and the reinforcement of social norms within the WASH programme. This position provides essential technical, operational, and administrative support throughout the WASH programming process. The officer is responsible for preparing, managing, and implementing a variety of tasks related to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the community development aspects of the country programme's WASH output results. This involves ensuring that community-level interventions are effective, sustainable, and aligned with UNICEF's goals for child wellbeing and rights, particularly in the context of water, sanitation, and hygiene in a challenging island environment.
Responsibilities
The Community Development Officer (WASH) is accountable for leading community mobilization efforts, hygiene promotion activities, and reinforcing social norms to support the WASH programme in Kiribati. This role involves providing comprehensive technical, operational, and administrative assistance across the entire WASH programming cycle. Key responsibilities include developing and planning programme strategies, managing and monitoring programme implementation to ensure timely delivery of results, and offering technical and operational support to field activities. The officer will also contribute to humanitarian WASH preparedness and response efforts, build and maintain strong networks and partnerships with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders, and foster innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the community. This includes documenting best practices and lessons learned to inform future programming and ensure the sustainability of WASH interventions.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional work experience in community development for WASH-related programmes in developing countries is required.
