Job Purpose
As a Construction Officer, you will report directly to the Chief of Field Office, with technical supervision from the Construction Specialist. You will be responsible for providing technical support to construction activities at the field office level, including planning, procurement support, and on-site monitoring of construction works. Your role will contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the UNICEF Cameroon construction programme, supporting the design of resilient classrooms and driving innovation in green construction. You will collaborate closely with UNICEF Programme/Operations to align construction interventions with programmatic needs and achieve results for children, while also supervising the Administrative Associate (Construction).
Responsibilities
The incumbent will contribute to the integration of child-friendly, eco-friendly, and equitable access concepts into all construction projects. They will work to prevent risks of inferior quality work, non-adherence to standards and specifications, and delays in the construction component of the learning and development programme. Essential to ensuring high-quality standards, timely completion, and effective coordination among stakeholders, the incumbent will undertake technical monitoring and oversight of all school rehabilitation/construction of inclusive secondary schools or any other renovation/construction works undertaken by UNICEF. Key functions include preparation of the construction annual work plan, collaboration with UNICEF Programme and coordination with Government counterparts, preparation of design and technical documents, support to the procurement process, and monitoring of construction projects.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in construction project management, site supervision, and technical design is required. Experience in developing countries or with international organizations is an asset.
