Job Purpose
The Young Internship Programme in Niger aims to support the employability of young Nigerien graduates by providing structured practical experience. This initiative identifies, trains, and supports young talents in various fields, aligning with UNICEF's mission to uphold children's and youth rights and development. The program addresses the limited access young graduates have to structured professional experiences, especially within international organizations. Interns will gain valuable practical experience, exposure to international organization operations, and develop professional skills over a six-month period, contributing to UNICEF Niger's commitment to youth inclusion and national human capital development.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer, the intern will support strengthening media relations, producing institutional content, assisting in event preparation and coverage, and monitoring UNICEF's visibility efforts for children in Niger. Key responsibilities include: Media Relations Support: Assisting in maintaining relationships with UNICEF's media partners, updating media contact lists, coordinating with journalists and production teams, participating in media coverage of activities and events, and contributing to press kits and press releases. Institutional Communication Support: Drafting and proofreading institutional content such as articles and key messages, documenting UNICEF activities through information and data collection, promoting UNICEF's results to partners and the public, and assisting in organizing communication products. Advocacy Support: Contributing to advocacy messages on child rights priorities, gathering information for advocacy materials, monitoring current events related to children and vulnerable communities, and identifying communication and advocacy opportunities. Media Monitoring and Analysis: Contributing to daily/weekly media watch on child rights issues, assisting in preparing media analyses and press reviews, tracking UNICEF's media coverage, and identifying communication trends, opportunities, and risks.
