Job Purpose
The Logistics Associate will perform highly skilled logistics work to support the Ebola emergency response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This role involves managing complex in-country logistics, warehousing, and distribution cases, requiring the evaluation of difficult situations and adaptation of procedures. The incumbent will work with a high degree of operational independence to ensure the timely and reliable movement, storage, and last-mile delivery of programme supplies, including time-critical Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) commodities. The position also contributes to the design of improved logistics services and delivery mechanisms and may involve supervising lower-level staff. This role is crucial for maintaining the supply chain integrity during a critical public health emergency.
Responsibilities
The Logistics Associate is responsible for managing in-country logistics operations, ensuring the efficient and effective flow of essential supplies for the Ebola response. This includes overseeing warehousing and inventory management, maintaining accurate records of stock levels, and implementing appropriate storage and handling procedures to prevent loss or damage. The role also involves contributing to emergency preparedness by ensuring that logistics systems are robust and responsive to evolving needs. A key aspect is partnership, coordination, and reporting, which involves working closely with national authorities, UN agencies, cluster mechanisms, and implementing partners to deliver measurable results, especially in insecure or hard-to-reach areas. The incumbent will evaluate difficult situations and adapt logistics procedures as necessary, ensuring operational independence. They will support the timely and reliable movement, storage, and last-mile delivery of programme supplies, including time-critical IPC commodities, and contribute to the design of improved logistics services and delivery mechanisms. Supervision of lower-level GS staff may also be required.
Work Experience
A minimum of six (6) years of relevant administrative experience in logistics, warehousing, transport, supply chain management, or a commercial context is required. Experience using an ERP system (VISION/SAP supply and logistics modules) and MS Office tools is also required.
