Job Purpose
The Chief, Child Protection is responsible for managing and leading all stages of the child protection programme within a large Country Office. This involves strategic planning, formulation, and achieving concrete, sustainable contributions to national and international efforts to create a protective environment for children. The role ensures children's rights to survival, development, and well-being are upheld as established under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international frameworks. The incumbent leads the child protection section, establishing action plans to ensure the achievement of programme results aligned with results-based management, UNICEF's Strategic Plans, and accountability standards.
Responsibilities
The Chief, Child Protection provides managerial leadership for the child protection section, overseeing programme development and planning to align with UNICEF's strategic objectives and national priorities. Responsibilities include managing, monitoring, and ensuring the quality of programme results, utilizing results-based management approaches. The role involves providing advisory services and technical support to government counterparts and partners on child protection issues. Furthermore, the Chief is responsible for advocacy, networking, and building partnerships with stakeholders to advance child protection agendas. This includes fostering innovation, managing knowledge, and building the capacity of staff and partners. The position requires ensuring that all child protection activities contribute to creating a protective environment for children against all forms of harm and uphold their rights to survival, development, and well-being.
Work Experience
At least 10 years of relevant work experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas, at the international level, is required.
