Job Purpose
The consultant will initiate advanced secondary analyses of national datasets and programmatic information in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The objective is to generate actionable evidence that goes beyond descriptive reporting to inform nutrition policies, strategic choices, and program implementation. This work is crucial for accelerating progress under the National Multisectoral Nutrition Strategic Plan 2023-2030. The consultant will contribute to a thematic supplement, collaborating with guest editors from UNICEF and government entities, to present cutting-edge analytical work and implementation-focused evidence. This consultancy aims to leverage high-quality data to drive impactful nutrition interventions and policy development within the DRC.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive advanced secondary analyses of large-scale surveys (National Nutrition Survey, MICS, DHS) and programmatic data. Generate actionable evidence to inform nutrition policies, strategic choices, and program implementation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Contribute to the development of a thematic supplement by providing cutting-edge analytical work and implementation-focused evidence. Collaborate with guest editors from UNICEF and government entities in coordinating the supplement. Ensure that analyses go beyond descriptive reporting to provide deeper insights into nutrition programming. Leverage high-quality national datasets and programmatic information to accelerate progress under the National Multisectoral Nutrition Strategic Plan 2023-2030. Apply geospatial analysis techniques where relevant to understand the spatial distribution of nutrition issues. Synthesize findings into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations for policymakers and program managers. Present findings to relevant stakeholders, including government bodies and UNICEF country office. Ensure the quality and rigor of all analytical work undertaken.
Work Experience
At least 10 years of professional experience in conducting secondary and geospatial analyses of large-scale surveys (National Nutrition Survey, MICS, DHS). Proven experience in nutrition programs, food security, and health. Experience in developing policies and actionable implementation plans. Proven practical experience in GIS or similar work in developing countries.
Skills
Excellent analytical, synthesis, and writing skills, Knowledge of global nutrition context (complementary feeding, dietary intake, micronutrients, food systems, acute malnutrition management), Ability to work with government bodies tactfully and diplomatically, Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Proficiency in STATA and R software, Proficiency in R-INLA package, Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, Experience in conducting secondary analyses of large-scale surveys, Experience in geospatial analysis (GIS), Experience in nutrition programs, food security, and health, Experience in policy development and implementation planning
