Job Purpose
The WASH Manager will strengthen programme quality, consistency, and implementation oversight across the WASH portfolio in Nigeria. This role supports evidence-based decision-making, enhances confidence in reported results by partners, donors, and stakeholders, and ensures UNICEF-supported interventions are delivered to a high standard, achieving sustainable results for children and communities. The Manager will report to the Chief WASH (P5) and assist in managing the WASH section, leading the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the WASH programme. Key contributions include improving the consistency and quality of WASH infrastructure and services, strengthening monitoring and documentation, enhancing risk-informed planning, and resolving implementation challenges within the country programme.
Responsibilities
The WASH Manager provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to ensure the achievement of WASH-related output results in the country programme. The role involves providing authoritative advisory services to government and sector support agencies, interacting with government at senior levels, and engaging with senior staff in International Development Banks. The Manager will support the strengthening of quality assurance, risk-informed programming, and implementation oversight across the WASH portfolio. This position is crucial for ensuring that programme interventions are delivered to a high standard, adhere to technical norms, and that resources are utilized effectively for sustainable results for children and communities. Contributions will enhance transparency, accountability, and value for money through strengthened monitoring systems, partner support, and field-level verification of results. The role requires significant travel to Maiduguri and other conflict-affected areas, necessitating strong skills in WASH contract management, risk mitigation, compliance monitoring, construction oversight, accountability systems, and internal controls.
Work Experience
At least 8 years of relevant work experience in WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), construction oversight, internal controls, and contract management.
