Social & Behavior Change Officer (NO-2) , TA, 6 months, #00137463, Beirut - Lebanon, MENA
Organizational Context
UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, defend their rights, and help them fulfill their potential. We are committed, passionate, and proud of what we do for as long as we are needed. Promoting the rights of every child is not just a job – it is a calling.
Job Purpose
Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) is a cross-cutting programme strategy at UNICEF that analyzes and addresses the cognitive, social, and structural determinants of individual practices and societal changes in both development and humanitarian contexts. SBC utilizes the latest in social and behavioral sciences to understand people, their beliefs, values, socio-cultural norms, and economic and institutional contexts that shape their lives, aiming to engage them and increase their influence in designing solutions for change. SBC integrates evidence generation with participation in community-led and human-centered processes. It is central to UNICEF’s mandate, with corporate results across sectors revolving around behaviors such as immunization, feeding practices, learning, hygiene, and positive discipline, as well as transformations needed to make societies more inclusive, equitable, and peaceful.
Responsibilities
The Social & Behavior Change Officer will support the SBC section in addressing behavioral and social drivers that influence programme outcomes. This includes contributing to improved service uptake and quality of results through evidence generation, community engagement, and the integration of behaviorally informed approaches across sectors. In Lebanon’s complex, protracted multi-crisis context, the role will focus on understanding and addressing social norms, misinformation, and barriers to access for children, adolescents, and their families. The officer will work to increase demand for essential services, reduce inequities, strengthen national systems, and enhance community engagement, accountability, and emergency preparedness through integrated humanitarian and development programming across key sectors like Health, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, WASH, Social Policy, and Youth.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in social and behavior change communication, public health, or a related field is required. Experience working in a humanitarian or development context, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa region, is an asset.
