Job Purpose
The Communication Officer (Multimedia) NOA/TA is crucial for strengthening field-level communication capacity in the Democratic Republic of Congo, specifically in Bunia. This role supports the timely production of high-quality multimedia content to enhance visibility, public awareness, and trust in the ongoing Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) response. The position is essential for informing the public, combating misinformation, and promoting life-saving behaviors in a complex environment marked by security constraints, community mistrust, and limited access to reliable information. The officer will play a key role in risk communication, community engagement, and advocacy to protect vulnerable populations, especially children, during this critical public health emergency.
Responsibilities
The Communication Officer will be responsible for developing multimedia content, including photography, video, and written articles, specifically for the Ebola emergency response. This includes creating engaging and informative materials adapted to the local cultural context to combat misinformation and promote health-seeking behaviors. The role involves managing media relations and external communications, ensuring UNICEF's messaging is clear, consistent, and effectively disseminated. This includes proactive engagement with local and international media outlets. The officer will also be tasked with media monitoring to track public sentiment, identify rumors, and manage misinformation effectively. Furthermore, responsibilities include monitoring and evaluating communication activities, reporting on their impact, and contributing to the overall strategy of the Ebola response. The position requires working under pressure in an emergency context, simplifying technical health messages for public understanding, and utilizing digital tools and multimedia software proficiently to enhance the visibility and impact of UNICEF's efforts in protecting children and communities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in communication or multimedia production. Experience in creating digital content (photography, video, social media) is required. Experience in a humanitarian or emergency context, particularly Ebola response, is highly desirable.
