Job Purpose
The National Consultant will conduct a rapid market assessment focused on girls' skills development and economic empowerment in Katsina State, Nigeria. The primary objective is to deliver practical, evidence-based recommendations that will inform and align UNICEF's Skills4Girls training interventions with local labor market demands. This consultancy aims to identify accessible, safe, and socially acceptable livelihood pathways for adolescent girls, address structural and gender-based barriers hindering their participation in education, training, and employment, and ultimately inform the design of context-sensitive, scalable interventions. The consultant's work will strengthen employability, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion for adolescent girls, contributing to their overall economic empowerment and the realization of their rights.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for identifying priority sectors and livelihood pathways that are accessible, safe, and socially acceptable for adolescent girls in Katsina State. This includes aligning the Skills4Girls training interventions with the identified local labor market demands to ensure relevance and effectiveness. A key responsibility will be to analyze and address the structural and gender-based barriers that prevent girls from participating fully in education, training, and employment opportunities. The consultant will also be tasked with informing the design of interventions that are context-sensitive and scalable, focusing on strengthening employability, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion for adolescent girls. This will involve conducting qualitative and quantitative research, engaging with government stakeholders, and producing a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations. The consultant will also collaborate with UN agencies and development partners as needed.
Work Experience
A minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in economics, labor market research, skills development, or programming focused on girls' and women's economic empowerment. Demonstrated experience in conducting both qualitative and quantitative research, and experience working on adolescent and youth-related programming are required.
