Job Purpose
The UNICEF Comoros Office seeks to recruit a National Consultant in Social and Behavior Change (SBC) to strengthen risk communication and community engagement in response to health and climate change emergencies. The consultant will play a key role in developing and implementing communication strategies tailored to local contexts, aiming to engage, raise awareness, and promote protective behaviors within communities. This position is crucial for enhancing community resilience and improving preparedness and response to health and climate crises, building upon lessons learned from recent challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, measles, cholera, Mpox outbreaks, and the impacts of climate change.
Responsibilities
The National Consultant for Social and Behavior Change will be responsible for developing and implementing effective SBC strategies to address health and climate change emergencies in Comoros. This includes conducting formative research to understand community perceptions, beliefs, and practices related to health risks and climate change impacts. The consultant will design and pilot communication materials and interventions that are culturally appropriate and context-specific. They will also facilitate community engagement activities, working closely with local leaders, health workers, and community groups to promote desired behaviors and build trust. A key responsibility will be to strengthen risk communication mechanisms, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination during emergencies. The consultant will also monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SBC interventions, providing regular reports and recommendations for improvement. This role requires close collaboration with UNICEF, government partners, and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and impactful response. The consultant will be based in Anjouan with inter-island travel.
Work Experience
Experience in social and behavior change communication, community engagement, and emergency response is desirable. Experience working with UNICEF or other UN agencies is an asset.
