Job Purpose
The WASH Officer (NO-2) plays a crucial role in supporting the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH interventions in Uzbekistan. This position contributes to UNICEF's Country Programme outcomes by ensuring the effective delivery of WASH services and promoting equitable access for all children, particularly in areas facing disparities and climate-related challenges. The officer provides essential technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the WASH programming process, managing and implementing tasks related to output results and contributing to national systems and institutions for climate-resilient and inclusive services. The role also supports preparedness and response to emergencies affecting water availability and quality, ensuring that WASH remains a priority for child well-being.
Responsibilities
The WASH Officer provides technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the WASH programming process. This includes preparing, managing, and implementing a variety of technical and administrative tasks related to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the WASH output results of the country programme. The officer supports national systems and institutions in delivering climate-resilient and inclusive services, strengthening sector governance, and promoting hygiene practices in communities, schools, and healthcare facilities. They also contribute to preparedness and response to emergencies, particularly those related to climate risks affecting water availability and quality. The role involves working closely with government counterparts, development partners, and communities to ensure effective delivery of WASH services and equitable access for all children. The officer will also contribute to strengthening the WASH programme in Uzbekistan by focusing on key priorities such as strengthening climate resilience, improving infrastructure, and promoting sustainable behavior change to ensure equitable and safe WASH services for all children and communities.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional work experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required. Prior experience working with UN Partners in the country and Joint Programming experience will be an asset. Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts is also desirable.
