Job Purpose
Under the guidance of the Chief of Education, the Education Officer supports the development and preparation of Education programs, providing strategic direction and support to the Mauritanian government, particularly the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social Affairs. The role focuses on strengthening the education system, supporting evidence-based planning and monitoring, and contributing to the achievement of national educational sector plans and SDGs. This includes advising on out-of-school children and youth not in education, employment, or training (NEET), and supporting successful integration into school or training programs.
Responsibilities
The Education Officer provides targeted technical advice to the government throughout programming processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of results in educational programs and projects aimed at improving learning outcomes and equitable, inclusive education, especially for marginalized children. Key responsibilities include supporting program development and planning, program management, monitoring, and results delivery. The role also involves providing technical and operational support for program implementation, fostering networks and partnerships with governmental and technical/financial education partners, and contributing to innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building. Additionally, the officer supports decentralization efforts, high-level advocacy for evidence-based planning and public education budgeting, and resource mobilization.
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in education program planning, management, and research is required.
