Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this consultancy is to engage a qualified Designer/Illustrator to support the development and finalization of competency-based Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) in Mathematics and Tajik Language for Grades 7 and 8. This critical work is conducted in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES) of the Republic of Tajikistan and UNICEF, as part of the Education Reform Project (TJK1043 — Phase II). The assignment's core objective is to ensure that all visual elements within the TLMs effectively enhance comprehension, foster engagement, and are fully aligned with the principles of competency-based education. The role requires translating complex curriculum content into clear, engaging, and gender-responsive visuals, ensuring the materials are age-appropriate and culturally sensitive.
Responsibilities
The National TLM Designer/Illustrator will be responsible for the overall design and illustration of competency-based Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) for Mathematics and Tajik Language for Grades 7 and 8. This includes developing and applying cohesive design systems to ensure consistency, usability, and pedagogical alignment across all materials. The consultant will create inclusive, gender-responsive, and culturally appropriate visuals, translating complex curriculum content into clear and engaging illustrations, infographics, and diagrams. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is essential for creating print-ready files and applying templates and style guides at scale. The role requires strong collaboration with curriculum developers, subject matter experts, and editors, maintaining high attention to detail regarding quality, copyright, and accessibility standards. The consultant must manage design iterations, effectively incorporate feedback from stakeholders, and meet tight deadlines throughout the project lifecycle. Familiarity with international competency-based curriculum frameworks is required, and the ability to work effectively with Tajik-language editors and reviewers is crucial, especially if the consultant is not proficient in Tajik.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in designing Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs). At least 7 years of demonstrated experience designing integrated TLM packages for primary and secondary levels. Proven experience in designing and managing school-based pilots of learning materials.
