Job Purpose
The Child Protection section leads critical programme priorities aimed at safeguarding vulnerable children across Gaza and the West Bank. This includes strengthening linkages to the national child protection system to prevent and respond to violence against children, including conflict-related violence, and advancing child safeguarding. Key priorities involve reinforcing national capacity for an inclusive child protection system and access to justice, particularly through investment in child protection social workers. The role also focuses on strengthening the delivery of critical child protection services, expanding community-based MHPSS for children and caregivers, and supporting family-based alternative care and social protection systems for children who have lost parents.
Responsibilities
The Child Protection Manager is responsible for managing and supervising all stages of child protection programmes and projects. This includes strategic planning, formulation, and the delivery of concrete and sustainable contributions to national and international efforts. The role aims to create a protective environment for children against all harm and safeguard their rights to survival, development, and well-being, as established under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and international treaties. Key responsibilities include reinforcing national capacity for an inclusive child protection system, strengthening the delivery of primary, secondary, and tertiary child protection services, expanding community-based MHPSS, and supporting family-based alternative care and social protection systems. The manager will also work to reactivate justice services, including access to birth registration, through coordinated engagement with local partners.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in child protection, social development, or a related field is required. Experience in emergency settings is an asset.
