Job Purpose
The National Consultant for WASH Programming Implementation Support will provide crucial technical assistance to national and provincial partners in the planning and implementation of climate-resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs. This role is integral to UNICEF's mission of supporting child survival and development, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by climate change to WASH infrastructure and services. The consultant will contribute to enhancing the capacity of local stakeholders to design and execute effective WASH interventions that ensure safe water access, adequate sanitation facilities, and promote hygiene practices, thereby safeguarding children's health and well-being.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support to national and provincial partners in the planning and implementation of climate-resilient WASH programs. This includes advising on best practices, innovative approaches, and evidence-based strategies for WASH interventions. Support the development and refinement of WASH program strategies, work plans, and budgets, ensuring alignment with national priorities and UNICEF’s global WASH agenda. Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building activities for partners on climate resilience in WASH, sanitation and hygiene promotion, water supply project management, and integrated water resource management. Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of WASH program activities, including data collection, analysis, and reporting to track progress and identify areas for improvement. Contribute to the development of communication materials and strategies for behavioral change related to sanitation and hygiene. Ensure that WASH programs are designed and implemented with a strong focus on equity, inclusion, and the specific needs of vulnerable children and communities. Collaborate closely with UNICEF country office teams, government counterparts, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and synergy of WASH efforts. Support the integration of WASH interventions with other child survival and development (CSD) initiatives. Prepare regular progress reports and contribute to final evaluation of the consultancy assignment.
Work Experience
5 years of experience working in the UN or other international development organizations are desirable.
