Job Purpose
Under the UNICEF China Country Programme, this consultancy focuses on nutrition, a critical priority to support optimal child growth and development while addressing the increasing burden of childhood overweight and obesity. The role requires integrated, life-course approaches spanning early childhood nutrition and the promotion of healthy food environments. UNICEF has been implementing various programmes, including Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), school nutrition initiatives, and communication campaigns to encourage behaviour change towards healthier diets. Additionally, UNICEF is working to improve food environments, such as promoting the application of the Nutrient Profiling Model (NPM) in retailers, cities, and schools to prevent childhood overweight. This consultancy will contribute to these vital efforts.
Responsibilities
The National Nutrition Programme Consultant will support the UNICEF China Country Programme in its efforts to address critical nutrition challenges. This includes contributing to the implementation of existing programmes such as Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and school nutrition initiatives. The consultant will also be involved in communication campaigns aimed at encouraging behaviour change towards healthier diets among children and adolescents. A key aspect of the role will be to support initiatives to improve food environments, including the promotion and application of the Nutrient Profiling Model (NPM) in various settings like retailers, cities, and schools, with the goal of preventing childhood overweight. The consultant may also be involved in research, policy-related work, and data analysis to inform programme strategies and interventions. This role requires collaboration with internal teams and external partners to ensure effective programme delivery and impact, contributing to the overall goal of improving child nutrition and well-being in China.
Work Experience
At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in nutrition, public health, or related areas.
