The Administrative Specialist (Environmental) will support the integration of sustainability across UNICEF operations by contributing to policies, guiding UNICEF offices on environmental reporting and greenhouse gas (GHG) data, and driving performance improvements. This role is crucial for implementing the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (SCAP) 2023-2030, mainstreaming sustainability, reducing emissions, and supporting global partners in their environmental efforts.
Responsibilities
The Administrative Specialist (Environmental) will support the integration of sustainability objectives, principles, metrics, and indicators into office management plans across global UNICEF offices. This includes shaping and developing organizational policies and guidance related to sustainability and SCAP implementation. The role involves providing guidance to UNICEF offices on the environmental inventory process, and reviewing data for GHG emissions and resource consumption from facilities and operations (electricity, air travel, vehicle fuel use, water, and waste) to ensure accuracy and compliance. The specialist will enhance environmental performance by identifying areas for improvement in GHG emissions, waste, water, and wastewater management, as well as sustainability governance. Support will be provided for the ongoing Sustainability Assessment and Science-Based Targets development and operationalization. Additionally, the role entails organizing and delivering trainings, presentations, and workshops to promote UNICEF’s sustainability objectives and guide offices on their role in mainstreaming the environmental sustainability agenda. The specialist will also support sustainability initiatives, smart energy monitoring, green building certifications, and eco-efficiency projects, while promoting knowledge sharing and innovation through capacity building.
Work Experience
Experience in environmental reporting, greenhouse gas (GHG) data management, and sustainability initiatives is required. Experience in supporting policy development and capacity building is also beneficial.
