Job Purpose
The WASH Specialist will report to the Chief Field Office and Chief of WASH, providing support for the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the WASH programme within the country. This role involves offering technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to ensure the successful administration and achievement of WASH-related output results. The specialist will be instrumental in shaping and executing strategies that improve water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions for children and communities, contributing to UNICEF's mission of realizing the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged.
Responsibilities
The WASH Specialist is accountable for supporting the development, planning, management, monitoring, and delivery of results for the WASH programme. This includes providing essential technical and operational support for programme implementation, ensuring effective humanitarian WASH preparedness and response, and fostering strong networking and partnership building with relevant stakeholders. The role also encompasses driving innovation, managing knowledge, and building capacity within the WASH sector. Key activities include developing and implementing WASH strategies, monitoring programme progress against set objectives, coordinating with government bodies and NGOs, and ensuring that WASH interventions are aligned with national policies and human rights principles. The specialist will also contribute to advocacy efforts related to WASH financing and policies, and ensure that gender equality and human rights are integrated into all WASH activities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required. This includes at least one year of deployment in a developing country and at least one three-month deployment mission in a humanitarian situation (with UN-Govt-INGO).
