Job Purpose
The Communication Specialist (Media) will be based in Delhi to strategically strengthen relationships with South Asia news bureaus and drive international media coverage of children’s issues across the Asia and Pacific region. This role aims to enhance UNICEF’s media agility and proactiveness in disaster-prone regions, reinforcing UNICEF’s reputation as the leading organisation for reliable data, engaging spokespersons, and compelling stories about children. Working under the supervision of the Communication Specialist (Media) at the UNICEF Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO), the incumbent will closely collaborate with UNICEF Country Offices, the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy, and various partners and stakeholders to harness regional and global collaborations on key advocacy and programme priorities for Asia and the Pacific.
Responsibilities
The Communication Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing media strategies and plans to achieve communication objectives. This includes creating compelling content and storytelling that highlights UNICEF's work and impact on children. The role involves managing media relations and engagement, building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists and media outlets. A key responsibility is crisis communication and emergency response, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination during critical situations. The specialist will also provide support to UNICEF Country Offices in their communication efforts, coordinate with spokespersons and media, and contribute to campaigns and advocacy initiatives. Furthermore, the role involves fostering partnerships and supporting resource mobilization through strategic communication, conducting media monitoring and risk management, and overseeing monitoring and evaluation of communication activities.
Work Experience
Five years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in Communication, Broadcasting, Media, print, emergency communications, content development, campaign management, media monitoring, spokesperson, media relations, communication strategy, stakeholder engagement, or emergency situations. Field work experience and familiarity with emergency situations are required.
