Job Purpose
The Construction Officer reports to the Education Construction Specialist and is responsible for providing technical support to the country office's construction activities. This includes planning, supporting procurement, and monitoring construction works on site. The role contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the UNICEF Cameroon construction program, supporting the design of resilient classrooms and leading innovation in green construction. The officer collaborates with UNICEF Programme/Operations to define construction interventions that meet programmatic needs and achieve results for children, ensuring that construction projects align with UNICEF's mission and standards.
Responsibilities
The Construction Officer is accountable for preparing the construction annual workplan and collaborating with UNICEF Programme and Government counterparts. Key responsibilities include preparing design and technical documents, supporting the procurement process for construction materials and services, and diligently monitoring the progress and quality of construction projects on site. The officer must also monitor environmental and social impact indicators for construction projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and UNICEF standards. This involves overseeing site supervision, quality assurance, and ensuring that construction processes and projects adhere to best practices, particularly in disaster risk reduction and resilient infrastructure, with a focus on school reconstruction and education in emergencies.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required in project monitoring, site supervision, and quality assurance. Experience in public building construction processes, disaster risk reduction works, and resilient infrastructures, ideally in school reconstruction or education in emergencies, is also necessary.
