Job Purpose
The Construction Officer reports to the Deputy Representative and is responsible for providing technical support to the country office's construction activities. This includes planning, supporting procurement processes, and monitoring construction works on-site. The role involves close collaboration with UNICEF Programme/Operations teams to define construction interventions that meet programmatic needs and achieve positive results for children. Key functions include preparing the annual construction workplan, coordinating with government counterparts, preparing design and technical documents, supporting procurement, and monitoring construction projects to ensure successful completion and alignment with UNICEF's goals for child welfare.
Responsibilities
The Construction Officer will be responsible for the preparation of the annual construction workplan, ensuring it aligns with programmatic needs and country office objectives. This role requires close collaboration with UNICEF Programmes/Operations teams and effective coordination with Government counterparts to facilitate project implementation. A key responsibility is the preparation of detailed design and technical documents for construction projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations. The officer will provide essential support to the procurement process for construction-related goods and services, ensuring transparency and efficiency. Furthermore, the Construction Officer will be tasked with the diligent monitoring of construction projects on-site, overseeing quality assurance, adherence to timelines, and budget management. This includes regular site visits, progress reporting, and identifying and mitigating potential risks to ensure successful project delivery and achieve desired outcomes for children.
Work Experience
A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in project monitoring, site supervision, quality assurance, or other directly related technical fields at the national and/or international levels is required.
