Job Purpose
The National Intern - Policy and Public Finance for Children will support the UNICEF Cambodia Country Office in its efforts to strengthen public finance management for children. This role involves assisting the Policy and Public Finance for Children (PPF4C) Programme by updating budget data, including data entry, structuring, and translation from Khmer to English. The intern will also contribute to budget analysis to inform policy discussions and monitor the implementation of recommendations related to child rights budgeting. This position is crucial for enhancing UNICEF's ability to advocate for improved budget allocation and execution for interventions addressing multidimensional child poverty, ensuring that children's needs are effectively met through public financial management reforms.
Responsibilities
The intern will be responsible for updating the budget database by performing data entry of budget laws and relevant documents, ensuring data accuracy and consistency. This includes translating key budget documents from Khmer to English to facilitate broader analysis and understanding. The role involves supporting the development and maintenance of data structures for the budget database, making it suitable for annual budget analysis and monitoring. Furthermore, the intern will assist in conducting budget analysis, particularly focusing on child rights budgeting, to identify gaps and inform policy-budget discussions. This includes utilizing public finance analysis tools and available budget data. The intern will also contribute to the preparation of reports and presentations summarizing findings from the data analysis and budget reviews. Additionally, the intern may be involved in capacity building activities related to public finance for children, supporting social ministries in budget formulation and execution. The position requires close collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and other relevant government bodies to gather necessary data and ensure the effective implementation of PPF4C Programme activities.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is required, but familiarity with international and/or economic development issues is expected. Experience with data analysis tools and multi-cultural environments is considered an asset.
