Job Purpose
Under the general supervision of the supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for providing technical support for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of all stages of social policy programming and associated advocacy activities. This includes strategic planning, development, and achieving concrete, sustainable results. The role focuses on improving public policies to reduce child poverty, strengthening social protection coverage and impact, enhancing transparency and efficiency of public investments in children, and improving governance and citizen participation in social services.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will coordinate the daily technical aspects of the social and child protection policy portfolio within the UNICEF Algeria Country Office. This includes supervising staff and consultants as needed, contributing to program management mechanisms (including the Programme Management Team), and interacting with government partners, UN agencies, and key stakeholders. The role also involves providing technical contributions to country programme planning and review processes. Specific responsibilities include improving data on child poverty and vulnerability for policy use, strengthening social protection coverage and impact, enhancing the use of public financial resources for children, building local government capacity in social service planning and monitoring, strengthening advocacy and partnerships for child-sensitive social policies, and managing UNICEF programmes effectively. The position also supports links between development and humanitarian action, including contributions to the response for Sahrawi refugees.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience is required.
