Job Purpose
The National Consultant - English Language Instructor will be responsible for enhancing the English language proficiency of UNICEF Guinea staff. This role involves assessing current language levels, developing tailored learning plans, and delivering effective training sessions. The consultant will focus on improving both written and oral communication skills relevant to the professional work environment at UNICEF. The ultimate goal is to empower staff to communicate more effectively in English, thereby supporting UNICEF's mission in Guinea. This consultancy is crucial for capacity development within the People and Culture Section, ensuring staff are equipped with the necessary language skills for their roles and for contributing to UNICEF's broader objectives.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the People and Culture Section, the consultant will conduct an initial language assessment of participating staff to determine proficiency levels. They will develop a comprehensive English language learning plan and training methodology specifically adapted for adult learners and the professional context of UNICEF. The consultant will deliver regular English language training sessions, catering to both individual needs and group dynamics where appropriate. This includes developing customized learning materials, exercises, and practical assignments that directly address UNICEF's workplace communication requirements. A key responsibility is to support participants in enhancing their written and oral communication skills, covering areas such as email correspondence, report writing, presentation delivery, and meeting participation. The consultant will also conduct periodic assessments to track learning progress and provide monthly progress reports with recommendations for ongoing development. Finally, a final report summarizing all implemented activities, participation rates, achieved progress, and future recommendations will be submitted.
Work Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience teaching English as a second or foreign language. Demonstrated experience delivering English language training to adult learners in professional settings. Experience in language assessment and developing customized learning plans is required. Proven ability to design interactive training materials is essential.
