Job Purpose
The Logistics Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's humanitarian response in South Sudan, specifically in Jonglei State, where the situation remains dire due to ongoing violence and displacement. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of supply chain services, particularly in emergency contexts. This involves collaborating closely with programme teams and implementing partners to address urgent needs such as shelter, non-food items, WASH supplies, and nutrition. The position requires a proactive approach to overcome access constraints and ensure that essential supplies reach vulnerable populations, including women and children arriving daily with critical needs.
Responsibilities
The Logistics Specialist will be responsible for the overall management and execution of supply chain operations within the assigned area of responsibility. This includes planning, coordinating, and implementing logistics activities to support emergency response and ongoing programme needs. The role involves managing the procurement, storage, and distribution of essential supplies, ensuring timely delivery to beneficiaries and implementing partners. The specialist will collaborate closely with programme sections to understand their supply requirements and provide technical support on logistics matters. A key aspect of the role will be to monitor supply chain performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining accurate logistics records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with UNICEF's financial and supply chain policies and procedures. Furthermore, the specialist will work with partners to strengthen their logistics capacities and ensure effective coordination of humanitarian access and delivery, especially in challenging security environments and during periods of heavy rains.
Work Experience
A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience at national and international levels in supply, logistics, procurement, contracting, administration, or other directly related technical fields. Emergency experience is required.
