Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide crucial technical support and guidance for Data Science/Machine Learning (DS/ML) initiatives within UNICEF's Office of Innovation (OOI) and across its global operations. The consultant will leverage DS/ML as a powerful tool to accelerate positive outcomes for children, particularly in UNICEF program countries. The role involves guiding and informing early-stage DS/ML projects, bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and practical implementation in diverse contexts. A strong conviction for pioneering and promoting responsible and ethical DS/ML practices is essential, ensuring that technological advancements are applied effectively and equitably to serve children's needs.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide expert DS/ML technical guidance, support, and mentorship to various projects and teams, including those supported by the Venture Fund and other UNICEF divisions. This involves actively participating in the technical exploration, development, and rollout of early-stage DS/ML initiatives, models, and prototypes to accelerate results for children. A key responsibility is to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to foster understanding, adoption, and scaling of DS/ML initiatives across UNICEF. The consultant will also facilitate engagements between internal and external technical experts to support strategic initiatives funded by the Office of Innovation. This includes assisting non-technical teams in formulating use cases, gathering business requirements, and ensuring stakeholder involvement in project delivery. Practical experience with rapid prototyping and user feedback evaluation is also expected.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional, practical experience in Data Science/Machine Learning is required. This includes experience with software development technologies, cloud platforms, and frontier AI models. Experience working with non-technical teams and deploying ethical DS/ML practices is also necessary.
