Job Purpose
The Digital Impact Division (DID) is central to UNICEF's mission, leveraging emerging digital technologies to advance results for children. DID collaborates globally to accelerate progress on UNICEF's goals, strengthen community resilience, and expand access to essential digital services. The Digital Foundations (DF) function within DID creates and sustains data- and AI-ready digital solutions using human-centered design and scalable cloud technologies. This role will contribute to enhancing UNICEF's global digital impact by promoting equitable access to information and services, empowering communities, and fostering a more inclusive world for children. The purpose is to improve and scale an MVP Last Mile Supply Monitoring solution to enterprise level, serving all country offices and enhancing traceability of UNICEF's supplies.
Responsibilities
The Digital Impact Specialist, Development Lead will be responsible for the further improvement of the Last Mile Supply Monitoring (LMSM) solution, including the addition of new features, enhancing scalability, and implementing enterprise-level functionality to serve all UNICEF country offices. This involves working with an open-source project, reviewing and contributing to the backend codebase. The role will focus on developing and refining the platform to enable the collection of data by and from program implementing partners, and to provide a suite of business logic and dashboards for visualizing application data integrated with internal supply chain information. Key responsibilities include ensuring the solution's robustness, security, and user-friendliness, while also contributing to the modernization of core systems and fostering innovation within the Digital Foundations function. The specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the traceability of UNICEF's supplies from distribution to the final recipient, providing concrete evidence of commitment to equity principles and enabling the identification of potential supply loss areas. This involves addressing the current information gap caused by inconsistent monitoring processes and non-standardized, manual data from implementing partners.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in software development, with a focus on full-stack development, cloud technologies, and data visualization. Experience with open-source projects and agile methodologies is highly desirable. Experience in humanitarian or development sectors is an asset.
