Job Purpose
The Construction Specialist will provide technical oversight and monitoring of UNICEF’s construction and rehabilitation projects, focusing on schools, health facilities, and child-friendly spaces in Haiti’s southern departments. Based in Les Cayes, the role supports the planning, implementation, and quality assurance of construction activities to ensure children and communities have access to safe, resilient infrastructure and essential services. This position is crucial for the successful delivery of UNICEF's construction programme, contributing to lasting results for children and communities in a challenging humanitarian context.
Responsibilities
The Construction Specialist will manage the construction unit, collaborating closely with UNICEF Programmes/Operations to ensure integrated project delivery. Key responsibilities include coordinating the preparation of design and technical documents, supporting the procurement process for construction-related activities, and providing technical monitoring and oversight of construction projects. This involves ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgets, and addressing any technical challenges that arise during implementation. The role requires active engagement with contractors and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met, contributing to the provision of safe and functional infrastructure for children and communities in Haiti.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in construction project management, site supervision, or a related role is required. Experience in emergency contexts or with international organizations is an asset.
