Job Purpose
Under the general guidance of the supervisor, the Social Policy Officer is accountable for providing technical support and assistance in all stages of social policy programming and related advocacy. This includes strategic planning, formulation, and delivery of concrete and sustainable results for programmes aimed at improving public policies to reduce child poverty, enhancing social protection coverage and impact on children, ensuring transparency and efficiency of child-focused public investments, and strengthening governance and accountability measures for social services. The role involves direct programme work with government and civil society partners, as well as supporting teams working on education, health, child protection, water and sanitation, and HIV.
Responsibilities
Key functions include improving data on child poverty and vulnerability for policy and programme action, strengthening social protection coverage and impact for children, and enhancing the use of public financial resources for children. The role also involves strengthening the capacity of local governments to plan, budget, consult on, and monitor child-focused social services. Additionally, the Social Policy Officer will focus on strengthened advocacy and partnerships for child-sensitive social policy and contribute to UNICEF Programme Management. This encompasses ensuring that programmes are aligned with UNICEF's mandate to support the realization of the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged, and reflecting the diversity of children in the global workforce.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience is required, preferably in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts at the country level.
