ICT Intern

In Algeria, UNICEF supports government programs for children and leads a humanitarian response in Tindouf, facing operational challenges in remote locations and complex logistics. The Operations function is crucial for effective and accountable delivery of results.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to provide hands-on experience in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) support within a United Nations environment, specifically within the UNICEF country office in Algeria. The intern will contribute to strengthening ICT service delivery, supporting innovation, driving digital transformation, and enhancing operational efficiency. This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical skills in IT helpdesk support, systems and network maintenance, digital tools management, data management, and ICT asset tracking. The intern will assist in troubleshooting hardware and software issues, configuring IT equipment, managing user accounts, monitoring network performance, and supporting the use of digital platforms like Microsoft 365. Additionally, the intern will contribute to data backup procedures, ICT security best practices, and participate in digital initiatives, ultimately supporting UNICEF's mission to deliver results for children effectively and accountably.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the ICT Associate/Specialist, the intern will provide first-level technical support to staff, addressing hardware, software, printer, and connectivity issues. This includes assisting in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of IT equipment, as well as supporting the onboarding and offboarding processes for staff by setting up accounts and managing system access. The intern will also assist in monitoring network performance and connectivity, supporting the maintenance of LAN/WAN and Wi-Fi infrastructure, and helping to manage user accounts and permissions within systems like Active Directory and email platforms. Furthermore, the intern will support the use of Microsoft 365 applications (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, OneDrive), assist in maintaining internal collaboration platforms, and provide basic user training on digital tools. Responsibilities extend to assisting with data backup and recovery procedures, supporting the implementation of ICT security policies and best practices, and helping to ensure compliance with UNICEF data protection standards. The intern will maintain ICT inventory records and documentation, support the tracking and tagging of IT equipment, and contribute to digital transformation initiatives by supporting automation tools and basic data visualization or reporting tasks. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor will also be performed.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is required for this internship, but familiarity with emergency contexts or work experience in a developing country is considered an asset.
