Job Purpose
The Finance Assistant will be responsible for providing a variety of specialized tasks in finance functions, ensuring accurate and timely delivery that is in compliance with UNICEF financial rules and regulations. This role requires the capacity to research, adapt and evaluate irregular cases, and recommend improvements to process delivery and design. At the G-5 level, tasks are expected to be carried out with a high level of independence, contributing to the efficient financial operations of the UNICEF Malaysia office. The position supports payments, cash and treasury management, financial accounting, compliance, control, reporting, and budget monitoring, ensuring adherence to financial standards and supporting operational needs.
Responsibilities
The Finance Assistant will manage invoice submission for payment processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and liaise with requesting units and GSSC on payment queries. Responsibilities include maintaining liaison with local banks, preparing bank reconciliations, and supporting the management of office bank accounts. The role involves assisting with income reports, compiling data, and responding to queries on pledges and funds received to ensure financial accuracy and completeness. Maintaining financial records, monitoring systems, and supporting month-end and year-end account closures are key duties. The assistant will also support the preparation of financial reports for various needs, monitor fund utilization against approved budgets, and maintain transactional records. Additionally, the role involves recommending improvements to financial processes, developing SOPs, contributing to training, and acting as an alternate to the Senior Finance Associate.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of clerical experience in finance, accounting, auditing, and banking is required. Relevant experience at the country level is desirable.
