Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide short-term technical support to UNICEF's Resource Centres (RCs) in Serbia, focusing on the diagnosis, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical issues related to humanoid robots ('Voli') used in educational settings. The primary goal is to ensure the reliable operation of these robots in both RCs and mainstream schools, as requested by the Ministry of Education. The consultant will work closely with the UNICEF Office and the external vendor responsible for backend infrastructure and applications, utilizing provided documentation and robot access from RCs to deliver effective technical solutions and software updates.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct rapid technical assessments of all 11 robots, identifying and classifying hardware, software, connectivity, and language-related issues. This includes diagnosing system freezes, command execution failures, software instability post-update, connectivity loss, and hardware damage. The role involves troubleshooting and ensuring all robots are updated with the latest stable software, testing performance, and addressing bugs. The consultant will provide hands-on troubleshooting, recommend immediate fixes and workarounds, and propose solutions for internet dependency issues, including offline modes and network configurations. Additionally, the consultant will develop user-friendly troubleshooting guidelines, train RC staff on basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and effective classroom use, and create quick reference tools. Finally, the consultant will provide technical recommendations for long-term system improvements, advise on technical specifications for new local app development and procurement, and contribute feedback to future UNICEF digital innovation initiatives.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience in robotics, IT systems, or related technical support roles is required. Proven experience with humanoid robots or similar programmable devices, software troubleshooting, hardware diagnostics, and coordination of repairs is essential. Experience in education technology or school environments is considered an asset.
