Job Purpose
The Accounting & Finance Associate (G-6) position is crucial for ensuring the efficiency and efficacy of financial operations in Kenya. This role directly impacts the optimum, appropriate, and effective use of resources and ensures accurate financial recording, accounting, and reporting. These functions facilitate essential management oversight, informed decision-making, and quality control within the organization. The associate will be responsible for preparing and assisting with financial reports, verifying invoices, reconciling expenditures, and managing data from diverse sources to maintain completeness and accuracy. This role supports the preparation of recurring and ad-hoc reports for audits and budgets, assists in year-end account closures, and provides guidance to staff on financial matters, ensuring smooth financial operations.
Responsibilities
The Accounting & Finance Associate (G-6) will be responsible for a range of financial and accounting tasks to ensure the efficient operation of UNICEF Kenya. Key responsibilities include preparing and assisting with financial reports, data compilation, and responding to queries to ensure compliance and accuracy. The associate will act as the Local Finance Focal Point, verifying invoices, calculations, and submissions to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC). They will monitor and reconcile expenditures, balances, and payments for daily transactions, and manage data by selecting, verifying, and entering information from various sources, ensuring its completeness and accuracy. The role involves preparing scheduled and ad-hoc reports for audits, budgets, and other needs, and supporting year-end account closure and the preparation of financial statements. Additionally, the associate will provide guidance to staff and consultants on allowances and claims, initiate communication to resolve data discrepancies, maintain relationships with local banks, monitor exchange rates, and prepare bank reconciliations. Support will also be provided for budget preparation, cost estimates, and financial analysis for projects.
Work Experience
Minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience in finance and accounting is required. Relevant experience at the country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts is an advantage.
