Job Purpose
The Information Management Specialist will provide technical leadership for UNICEF’s IM Hub, focusing on identifying and mapping vulnerable children affected by emergencies and disasters. This role is crucial for routine and administrative data collection, centralization, and mapping to enhance situational monitoring, improve preparedness, targeting, and coordination of humanitarian responses. The specialist will support the Sudan Country Office in generating useful, valid, and reliable information on the situation of children’s and women’s rights, and the performance of UNICEF-supported programs. This includes assessing relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability, particularly in emergency contexts, ensuring coverage, coordination, and coherence. The incumbent will collaborate within the UN country team to support UNCT goals for valid and reliable information on SDG attainment and other objectives.
Responsibilities
Lead the organization of routine and administrative data collection, centralization, GIS mapping, and analysis for UNICEF’s regular situation monitoring of vulnerable children affected by emergencies to enhance humanitarian preparedness and coordination. Maintain an overview of available data, sharing it with relevant sections and developing a Real-Time Humanitarian Situation Monitoring System with clear tools and information flow. Ensure data accuracy and consistency for monthly Sitreps. Collaborate closely with humanitarian cluster Information Management Officers (IMOs) for UNICEF-led sector clusters, providing technical input and coordination support with OCHA, other UN agencies, HACT, NGOs, and partners. Support UNICEF-led clusters in ensuring assessments identify and map child and women’s vulnerability patterns, coverage gaps, and improvement opportunities. In coordination with Section Heads, Monitoring Manager, and sector IMOs, strengthen Sector Line Ministries’ management information systems, improving data collection, centralization, and mapping for UNICEF and partners, enhancing data consistency for performance monitoring and reporting. Support the development of rapid SMS and real-time monitoring approaches and contribute to data analysis for sector investment cases. Assist Field Offices and State counterparts in strengthening information management systems for administrative data collection, centralization, mapping, and sharing to improve decentralized humanitarian monitoring and response planning. Support the production and dissemination of sector 4W/6W information products and contribute to mapping supply delivery and stock availability. Contribute to capacity strengthening of UNICEF staff and partners on the use of GIS tools.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in information management, GIS mapping, data analysis, and database management, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts. Experience with data visualization tools and reporting is desirable.
