Job Purpose

The Information Management Specialist will provide technical leadership for UNICEF’s Information Management (IM) Hub, focusing on the identification and localization/GIS mapping of vulnerable children affected by emergencies and disasters. This role is crucial for routine and administrative data collection, centralization, and mapping to enhance situational monitoring. Effective monitoring is essential for better preparedness, targeted interventions, and coordinated humanitarian responses. The specialist will support the Sudan Country Office's commitment to utilizing data effectively, ensuring that information management practices contribute to the overall mission of promoting and protecting children's rights, especially for the most disadvantaged and excluded populations. This position is vital for translating the equity strategy into actionable insights through robust data management and analysis.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for the IM Hub, focusing on the identification and GIS mapping of vulnerable children affected by emergencies and disasters. Lead the collection, centralization, and mapping of routine and administrative data to improve situational monitoring and humanitarian response coordination. Support the Sudan Country Office in developing and implementing effective information management strategies and systems. Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across all IM activities. Develop and maintain databases, dashboards, and reporting tools for real-time situational awareness. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to share information and promote data-driven decision-making. Contribute to the development of IM policies, standards, and best practices within UNICEF Sudan. Train and mentor staff on information management tools and methodologies. Support the integration of IM activities with broader program and emergency response efforts. Ensure that IM activities align with UNICEF's equity strategy, focusing on the most disadvantaged children. Prepare regular reports and presentations on IM activities and findings for management and stakeholders. Contribute to contingency planning and preparedness activities related to information management.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in information management, data analysis, or GIS mapping, preferably in a humanitarian or development context. Experience with data collection, database management, and visualization tools is essential.
