Job Purpose
Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Regional Director overseeing the Strategic Operations Pillar, the Chief Risk Management is responsible for strengthening UNICEF’s governance, risk management, and control processes in the Regional Office and Country Offices within the WCAR region. This role is accountable for ensuring that risks are understood, governed, monitored, and integrated into decision-making processes. The incumbent ensures that heads of offices are aware of their accountability in managing risks to safeguard and protect organizational assets, both financial and non-financial, in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. This position plays a critical role in mitigating risks that could impede the achievement of results for children.
Responsibilities
Enhance Risk Management by embedding risk awareness into decision-making and workplace culture. Establish and maintain effective and proactive risk governance to mitigate risks that may impede the achievement of results for children. Provide oversight on regulatory and compliance risk. Support assurance activities to validate the effectiveness of risk management strategies. Ensure effective capacity development for partners, staff, and non-staff in risk management principles and practices. Maintain accurate, transparent, and timely risk reporting to relevant stakeholders. This includes developing and implementing risk management frameworks, conducting risk assessments, and facilitating risk workshops. The role also involves advising management on risk mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures. The Chief Risk Management will contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in risk management practices across the region.
Work Experience
At least 10 years of relevant work experience in risk management, enterprise risk management, governance, internal controls, compliance, audit, assurance, regulatory compliance, program risk management, social and environmental safeguards, or any other related fields.
