Job Purpose
The National Consultant on Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies will support the Child Protection section in Tigray by overseeing and contributing to the gender-based violence (GBV) work stream. This role involves providing essential coordination and technical inputs to ongoing programs, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of results through program monitoring. A key aspect of the consultancy is fostering capacity building and innovation within GBV prevention and response efforts, alongside managing knowledge effectively. The consultant will also play a crucial role in advocacy, networking with relevant stakeholders, and building partnerships to strengthen the overall response to GBV in emergency settings, ultimately contributing to the protection and well-being of children in vulnerable situations.
Responsibilities
The GBV consultant, under the supervision of the Child Protection Specialist in Tigray, will be responsible for a range of critical activities. This includes overseeing and contributing to the gender-based violence work stream within the Child Protection section, providing essential coordination and technical inputs to ongoing programs. The consultant will conduct program monitoring and quality control to ensure the effective achievement of results. A significant part of the role involves capacity building for staff and partners, fostering innovation in GBV programming, and managing knowledge generated from these efforts. Furthermore, the consultant will lead advocacy initiatives, engage in networking with key stakeholders, and build strategic partnerships to enhance the collective response to GBV in emergency contexts. This comprehensive approach aims to strengthen UNICEF's impact and ensure the protection of children affected by gender-based violence.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in the field of Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies (GBViE), preferably with a UN agency. Experience in supporting the management of GBViE projects and delivering GBViE-related trainings is also required.
