Job Purpose
The Construction Engineer, reporting to the Supply & Logistics Manager, is responsible for coordinating construction activities within a large country office. This role involves comprehensive management of construction projects, encompassing planning, procurement support, and on-site monitoring. The engineer will collaborate closely with UNICEF Programme/Operations teams to align construction interventions with programmatic needs and ensure positive outcomes for children. Additionally, the position requires providing technical and advisory support to government and partner organizations on construction project management, ensuring that all construction initiatives meet UNICEF's standards and contribute effectively to the organization's mission.
Responsibilities
The Construction Engineer will be accountable for several key functions. This includes the preparation of the annual construction workplan, ensuring alignment with overall country office objectives and programmatic requirements. Collaboration with UNICEF Programme sections and coordination with Government counterparts are crucial for successful project implementation. The role involves preparing necessary design and technical documents, ensuring they meet required standards and specifications. Support to the procurement process for construction-related goods and services is also a key responsibility, ensuring efficiency and compliance. Furthermore, the engineer will be responsible for the meticulous monitoring of construction projects on site, overseeing quality assurance, adherence to timelines, and budget management. This includes resolving difficult, complex, and sensitive situations that may arise during project execution, often under pressure, and initiating and managing change in a diverse environment to ensure project success and continuous improvement.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in Construction, Facilities Management, Project Management, Site Supervision, Quality Assurance, or a directly related technical field.
