Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to develop an advocacy manual that will serve as a practical guide for persons with disabilities and their associated Organisations for Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in Zambia. This manual will inform strategies and interventions aimed at realizing their rights through meaningful participation and inclusion. The consultant is expected to leverage their expertise in advocacy and disability inclusion to review and update the existing manual, ensuring it is strategic, accessible, and user-friendly for persons with disabilities and their organizations. The goal is to empower OPDs with a tool to enhance their advocacy efforts and promote the rights of persons with disabilities effectively.
Responsibilities
Develop a comprehensive advocacy manual tailored for persons with disabilities and Organisations for Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in Zambia. Review and update existing advocacy materials, ensuring alignment with current disability rights frameworks, including the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and national legislation. Incorporate best practices in advocacy, rights-based approaches, and participatory methods, emphasizing the "Nothing About Us Without Us" principle. Ensure the manual is accessible, user-friendly, and written in clear, simple language, avoiding jargon. Address intersectionality, considering factors such as gender, age, poverty, stigma, GBV, and climate risks. Integrate lessons learned and evidence from the disability sector in Zambia and relevant international contexts. Develop strategies for effective dissemination and utilization of the manual among OPDs and other stakeholders. Facilitate consultations with OPDs and persons with disabilities to gather input and ensure the manual meets their needs. Provide training or guidance on using the manual for advocacy efforts. Ensure the manual reflects respectful portrayal of persons with disabilities and promotes inclusive communication. Collaborate with relevant government institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners throughout the development process.
Work Experience
At least 8 years of experience in disability inclusion, disability rights, human rights, social inclusion, or public policy. Demonstrated experience working with OPDs, government institutions, or civil society. Experience in Zambia or similar contexts is required.
