Job Purpose
The Education Specialist (Teacher Development and Workforce) supports the Senior Advisor Education in managing the Teacher Development and Workforce portfolio within the UNICEF Education Center of Excellence. This role is crucial for providing high-level technical expertise, innovation, and support for the development, preparation, and implementation of plans and programs focused on teacher development and workforce. The specialist will offer technical guidance and operational support throughout all programming stages to facilitate the management and delivery of results, ultimately strengthening national education systems to improve both teaching and learning outcomes, particularly in fragile and crisis settings.
Responsibilities
The Education Specialist will provide management and advisory support to the Senior Education Advisor, contributing to the strategic direction and operational execution of the Teacher Development and Workforce portfolio. Key responsibilities include offering technical and analytical support to countries, assisting in the development of policies, guidance, and knowledge products related to teacher development and workforce. The role involves gathering evidence, facilitating learning, coordinating efforts, and reporting on program progress and impact. This includes engaging with partners, analyzing data, and utilizing evidence to inform programming and policy. The specialist will also play a role in advocating for teacher professionalization reforms and potentially leveraging EdTech and AI for teachers, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries and fragile contexts.
Work Experience
A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in teacher development, education systems strengthening, teacher workforce policy and programming, teacher competency and certification systems, programme planning, management, or research in education (teacher development and workforce) is required. Experience working in low- and middle-income countries, fragile, crisis, or humanitarian contexts, and as a classroom teacher are assets.
